About this website

Purpose
This website was created for a Spring 2009 project for Genetics 677-Genomic and Proteomic Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the direction of Dr. Ahna Skop, Ph.D. The purpose of the assignment was to apply bioinformatics to a common gene associated with human disease. For more information about the course, see the course website. For a list of other students projects, see the projects page.

The website creator
Jessica Kueck will be graduating in the spring of 2009 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor's degree in Genetics. She will be continuing her education in the fall of 2009 in pursuit of a doctoral degree in Cancer Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Jessica's interests in studying cancer were sparked through many loved ones afflicted with various forms of the devastating disease. As she learned more about the complexities of tumor development, she decided she wanted to do research in some area of cancer biology as a career. Through a course project in Genetics 677, Jessica was asked to pick a gene that is associated with a disease of interest. This lead Jessica to generate this website on BRCA1 and breast cancer.
